When you receive a plastic toy quote, it’s tempting to compare only the final number. But two suppliers can quote very different prices for the same toy—and both can be honest. The difference usually comes down to what’s included. At Shantou WeLoveToys Co., Ltd. (WELOVETOY), we’ve explained this to US and EU buyers for five years. Here’s a clear breakdown.
1. Material cost.
ABS, PP, PE, and TPR have different prices. Color masterbatch, flame retardants, and food-grade additives add more. A toy that looks simple may use more plastic than you expect, especially if it has thick walls or large parts. We calculate material weight based on the actual 3D model—not a guess.

2. Mold cost.
A new mold is a one-time investment. A simple mold may cost a few thousand RMB; a complex multi-cavity mold with moving parts can cost much more. This cost is spread across your order quantity. If you order 5,000 units, mold cost per piece is high. If you order 50,000, it drops sharply. We explain this clearly before you commit.
3. Injection molding and labor.
Machine time, electricity, and operator wages are part of every cycle. Small parts with tight tolerances take longer to mold. Assembly, if needed, adds labor. We check part fit and surface finish during the run, because fixing defects later costs more than preventing them.

4. Packaging and testing.
Color boxes, blister cards, poly bags, barcodes, and warning labels all add cost. So do EN71, ASTM F963, CPSIA, and REACH tests. Some buyers try to skip testing to save money—but a failed shipment costs far more. We treat testing as part of production, not an optional extra.
5. Freight and delivery.
Sea freight is cheaper but slower. Air freight is faster but expensive. Port congestion, peak season, and fuel surcharges affect rates. We help you compare options based on your deadline and budget.
6. Profit and MOQ.
Every supplier needs a margin. The question is whether the margin is fair for the service provided. A slightly higher quote may include better quality control, clearer communication, and fewer surprises. We’d rather explain our price than compete on the cheapest number.

After five years, we’ve learned that buyers don’t want the lowest price. They want a price they can trust. If you’re planning a plastic toy order for the US or EU, visit us at www.welovetoy.com. Send your target quantity and market. We’ll show you where the money goes—and how to get the best value.
Let’s make toys that make sense—for your market and your budget.
